Wichita, KS: "Spatial Organization" (10/13)

Deadline for registration is October 5th

Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas
October 13, 2007 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Spatial Organization: Proper and consistent use of space in interpretation not only makes interpreting easier, but it also makes it
easier to understand.  This workshop will provide practice using sign
space to set up objects and concepts in relation to each other and to
refer back to those as the interpretation continues or to reset objects or
concepts as needed.

Click here for registration and/or more details.

Wichita, KS: "Mind Mapping" (10/13)

Deadline for registration is October 5th

Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas
October 13, 2007 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Mind Mapping:  The purpose of this workshop is to develop the
technique of making and using mind maps to analyze discourse,
whether text, voiced or signed.  Mind mapping discourse aids
interpreters’ understanding of content, organization of information,
identification of key points and connecting supportive details for recall, -
in order to provide useful cohesive interpretations.   Overall accuracy
ratio of simultaneous interpretations to source messages can be
raised by practicing with stagnant texts incorporating mind-mapping
techniques.  Participants will learn to watch, listen and note; 1) purpose,
2) topics, and 3) details of discourse, in order to communicate
speakers’ intended meanings.
