Wichita, KS "ASL Grammar" (04/05)

Registration deadline is March 28th

Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
When translating English into ASL and ASL into English, the interpreter
must master the grammar aspects of both in order to deliver an
accurate interpretation.  This workshop will identify the troublesome
aspects and structures of ASL and provide some hands-on activities to
better match the intent of the source with the target language.

Wichita, KS "Non-Manual Markers" (04/26)

Registration deadline is April 18th

Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Fingerspelling and Numbers in ASL -  DRILLS, AND ACTIVITIES:  Most
interpreters feel  their fingerspelling skills are weak or inadequate. This
workshop will focus on fingerspelling and how it is used within ASL
discourse so that participants will become more fluent, more confident,
and more comfortable, both receptively and expressively. A practice
DVD, by Elizabeth Mendoza (RID Press), will be used to promote a
deeper understanding of the metacognitive strategies necessary for
improvement.

Wichita, KS "Top-Down Processing-Lexical,
Sentence, Pragmatic" (04/26)

Registration is due by April 18th

Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Top-Down Processing - Multiple Strategies to Simplify the Interpreting
Experience:  This workshop will present multiple well-known
processing models (what goes on inside our heads when we’re
working), authored by leaders in the interpreting profession, and give
examples for their application to interpreting in the classroom. During
this workshop, the presenter will show different interactive video
samples to identify the previously hidden stages within the process.
Participants will analyze how language, disposition, and surroundings
can immediately change the way we process source information and
relay the overall message to our students/consumers/clients. This is
truly the difference between signing and interpreting.
