| | Deaf (KAI-RID) is currently seeking qualified interpreters to provide interpreting services during our annual conference which is to be held March 28-30, 2008. The conference will be located at the DoubleTree Hotel in Overland Park, Kansas. Interpreting services are needed for the following: town hall meeting, keynote speaker, breakout sessions, evening entertainment (fashion show) and the board meeting.
All certification holders must be certified and current on their certification. Proof of certification is required upon submission of the Interpreter Application Form. Interpreters must hold one at least one of the following certifications:
* KQAS Certification (Level 4/5) * NAD Certification (Level 4/5) * RID Certification (CI/CT or CSC)
Due to the size and nature of our organization, we are unable to offer large compensation packages; however, interpreters will be compensated for their time. All workshops, with the exception of those that are designated to be presented in sign language only, will have a team of interpreters assigned to them. Interpreters assigned to a workshop will be guaranteed those hours whether or not there are deaf/hard of hearing individuals attending the workshop they are assigned to. In the same vain, interpreters are expected to interpret for the entire workshop whether or not there is a deaf/hard of hearing individual in the audience. As a professional interpreting organization, we feel that it is of the utmost importance to allow all conference goers the opportunity for full and equal access to all workshops. Interpreters will be compensated $30/hour (to the nearest quarter of an hour) for the time they are scheduled to interpret. No minimum hourly rate applies.
We are also looking for a couple of interpreters that are willing to be “on- call”. These interpreters will be compensated $2.00/hour for the time that they agree to be on-call. Interpreters who wish to be on call must be available on the hotel premises for the time that they have committed to. If and when interpreting services are needed, the rate for on-call pay stops and the normal hourly pay commences until the end of the assigned time. Interpreters serving in this capacity will more than likely be utilized as a team interpreter or deaf-blind interpreter, should the need arise.
Conference registration is not covered. Individuals interested in attending the conference are asked to fill out a conference registration form which can be found on our website: www.kai-rid.org. Please note that “early bird” registration is due by February 1st. Lodging at the hotel will not be covered. Interpreters interested in reserving a room at the DoubleTree can call them directly at (913)451-6100. Please note that conference rates are only available until February 25th.
If you are interested in interpreting at the conference, please fill out the Interpreter Application Form and attach a copy of your resume and your certification card. Deadline for applications is February 15, 2008. Applicants will be notified regarding the status of their application by March 2, 2008. Please e-mail interpreter@kai-rid.org if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
With Sincere Gratitude,
