NATIONAL ALLIANCE OF BLACK INTERPRETERS,
INC., HOSTS NATIONAL CONFERENCE
JUNE 19-22, 2008
January 1, 2008, The National Alliance of Black Interpreters, Inc.,
(NAOBI), a non-profit organization, will be celebrating 21 years of
existence and hosting its tenth annual professional development
conference, "Embracing the History... Empowering the Future" in
Braintree (suburb of Boston), MA. June 19-22, 2008.
The four-day professional development conference, which will be held at
the Sheraton Braintree Hotel, will provide training workshops and
professional development credit for certified interpreters as well as
for
students of Interpreting Training Programs (ITP).
Conference presenters will offer business strategies and skill
enhancement techniques for professional certified interpreters, pre-
certified interpreters and ASL/ITP students. The daytime hours will be
packed with choices of workshops benefitting attendees of various
experience levels. Each evening offers a fun activity and an
opportunity to network with interpreters, members of the Deaf
community, and vendors.
NAOBI, Inc. was established in 1987, with the goal to assist the growth
and development of African American/Black interpreters. NAOBI, Inc.
currently boasts eleven regional chapters from Southern California to
North Carolina; from Detroit to New Orleans. Having worked in the
non-profit sector for some time now, NAOBI, Inc. is pleased to have
strong relationships with RID, BDA (Black Deaf Advocates), CCIE, and
other partners in the field.
Fitting with the mission statement, the NAOBI, Inc. conference is
unabashedly tailored to support the needs of interpreters of color.
However, NAOBI's partners and their constituents are more than
welcome to attend; previous attendees have experienced a comfortable
and supportive learning environment that resulted in increased
knowledge in both general interpreting and cultural aspects.
See www.naobi.org/2008 for information on registration, becoming a
presenter, vendor, student representative and for donating to the
silent
auction. Should you have questions, please contact Dr. Rodney Smith,
Conference Chair: conf_chair@naobi.org (330)244-9327.
Conference fees increase on January 31st and May 31st

RID Region IV Conference June 25th-29th 2008
Just a few words to explain a little about this message. TSID (Texas
Society of Interpreters for the Deaf) is hosting the RID Region IV
conference in conjunction with their own annual conference in Houston,
Texas on June 25-29, 2008. We, as members of KAI-RID, are a part of
RID Region IV, and it would be great if several members of our
organization stepped up to work with them as either a committee
member or a presenter. You can find out more information below.
Hello all,
The Call for Committee members and the Call for Presenters are now
posted on the TSID website (tsid.org).
We need representation from all of Region IV on the committees. Please
encourage your members to respond.
Let me know if you have any questions.
